Re: How do you pronounce "Wikipedia"?
In English, something like [wikɪˈpi:diə], as far as I can tell. (Ignoring aspiration etc.) The final vowels are on the verge of being a diphthong, but I think they're separate at least when speaking slowly. I'm pretty sure the second <i> is neither a full nor a schwa.
In Swedish, I keep the foreign sound [w], which would definitely have become [v] if it had been properly adapted to Swedish phonology. (I think my girlfriend says [v-].) The vowels are not reduced as much, and the <e> is an /e/, so I think it's more like [wiki'pedia]. Still a tendency to diphthong at the end.
A friend of mine says [wai-]. I don't know why, no pun intended.
Come to think of it, doesn't anyone say /-peid-/? Would that be completely weird?

[wɪkɪˈpʰi:diə]
To those who are transcribing both the /k/ and the /p/ as aspirated: are you sure? I don't think /k/ and /p/ are aspirated IMD between a strong vowel and a weak one.

Huh. Lucky I don't say that then, I guess.
Re: How do you pronounce "Wikipedia"?
That from everything I have gathered is rather dialect and even register-specific. E.g. in my everyday speech I lenite them in that context so as probably be best described as [ɡ̊] and [b̥], but in higher registers I am less apt to do that, and I have heard other people who have even "stronger" realizations in that context.AnTeallach wrote:[wɪkɪˈpʰi:diə]

Re: How do you pronounce "Wikipedia"?
You take it a step further and actually voice your /k/ there? Heh. (While I do sometimes make it so that /g/ and /k/, or /b/ and /p/, are indistinguishable in these positions aside from vowel length, it is always in favor of merging to voiceless lenis realizations rather than to voiced ones.)TaylorS wrote:[ˌwɪgɨ̈ˈpʰiɾjə]
